Earlier, installing tiles was a tedious process that involved mixing cement and sand on-site and then adding water to make a slurry. With the advent of tile adhesive, this process has changed for the better. Tile adhesive is not only easier to use but is also stronger and sag resistant.

It can be used to install tiles on many different types of surface including cement, concrete, and plaster. Some types of tile mortar may even be used to install tiles over existing tiles.

Steps of applying adhesive

Step 1: The first step to installing tiles with floor tile adhesive or wall tile adhesive is to thoroughly clean the surface the tile is to be installed on. There should be no traces of dirt, loose plaster, oil or grease. The back of the tiles should also be similarly wiped clean. When using tile fixing adhesive, the tiles do not need to be soaked before installation. However, the walls will need to be dampened.

Step 3: Once the wall is ready, the tile adhesive should be mixed with water in the ratio mentioned on the package. For most types of tile adhesive, one 30-kg bag of adhesive should be mixed with 5-6 liters of water. This may be mixed by hand or with the help of a slow speed electric drill mixer. The mixture needs to be evenly mixed. Leave the mix to stand for 5-10 minutes and then mix again.

Step 4: The flat side of a notched trowel can be used to apply the tile cement onto the wall with a scraping motion. The notched edge can then be used to apply additional mortar and even out the layer.

Step 5: Once the mortar layer has been evened, tiles may be put in place. One of the advantages of tile adhesive over traditional cement slurry is that it cures slowly, and thus gives the mason adequate time to adjust the tile position.

Magicrete and tile adhesives

Magicrete has four different types of tile adhesive; Standard, Elite, Premium, and White. The adhesives differ based on the type of tile they can be used to install and the tile size. For example, White tile adhesive is white cement-based adhesive and hence is better suited for glass mosaic tiles. Elite is ideal for a large stone, ceramic or vitrified tiles. Premium is suitable for large format tiles or marble, granite or stones. And Standard is perfect for both vitrified and ceramic tiles on the floor or walls.
