Many find it challenging to use tile adhesives the right way. However, with a basic understanding of the below-mentioned points and some practice, installing tile adhesive will cease to be a challenge. Read on to know more about how to install tile adhesive correctly:

First things first

How do you determine which tile adhesive to use?

There is a range of tile adhesives in the market that you can choose from. You can either use mastic or thinset, or a particular kind that is designed for natural and marble stone. Thinset should be your preferred option if you want to install regular porcelain or ceramic tiles.

On the other hand, if you want to install tiles on the wall, you should look out for mastic. That being said, thinset can be used as well. If you are working with natural stone or marble, specially-made adhesives are your best bet.

How do you mix the adhesive?

Thinset and mastic may come premixed sometimes. If it is not, you will have to pour the powder, mix water accordingly, and bring it to a thick consistency. The best way to mix it is by using a drill attached with a stirring paddle.

How do you apply the adhesive?

Now that you know how to choose the right adhesive and mix it well, here is your guide to installing it the right way:

  • Consider consistency

While spreading the adhesive, one factor that you should look at is consistency. This obviously depends on the angle of the trowel and pressure applied.

  • Angle it correctly

After applying some adhesive, spread it with the help of a trowel. Ideally, the tool should be held and placed at an angle of 45 degrees while you use both hands to apply just the right amount of pressure. Anything more than this, and you will risk losing too much adhesive. Any less, and you might leave a lot on the walls or floor.

  • Look out for the grill

Ideally, you want a flat grill that will allow adequate airflow into the channels of the adhesive. This will create suction that will firmly hold the tiles while drying.

  • Start applying from a small area

It is good to start applying the adhesive from a comparatively small area. If you are a beginner, donÌ¢åÛåªt go beyond a meter square of area. Apply the adhesive evenly before putting the tiles; repeat the process in similar-sized slabs.

  • Check for gaps

Look out for any hole in the adhesive spread. ThatÌ¢åÛåªs because the tiles may crack when you try to drill through them later.

  • Remove adhesive that is starting to come off

DonÌ¢åÛåªt let any loose adhesive remain on the surface. To effectively scrape away the extra adhesive that is starting to come off, use a bucket trowel or tile.

In conclusion

Follow the steps mentioned above and stick to a particular side of your vertical guideline (this should be drawn with a pencil). This guideline should be clearly visible, allowing you to linearly put the tiles.

Magicrete has four types of tile adhesives Ì¢åÛåÒ Standard, Elite, Premium, and White. The exact option will vary depending on the type and size of the tile.
